What do the symbols at the bottom of Pokémon cards mean?

The symbol is a circle, diamond or star. They are the basic rarities: Circle is a common card, Diamond is an uncommon card, and Star is a rare card. In a Pokémon booster pack, all three rarities appear. From there, special rarities also appear. The rarity of a card will influence how it can be traded.

How can you tell which pack a Pokemon card is from?

The most common way to organize Pokémon cards is set up. To identify the set, look for a small symbol at the bottom of the card, next to the card number. There are plenty of these established symbols. 5-6 Sets are released every year, each with a different set symbol, and they’ve been printing cards since 1999!

How do you know if a Pokemon card is a promotion?

Older cards will have a promotional symbol below the established symbol, which you can find below the right corner of the Pokémon image. The newest card promotion symbols are in the lower right corner of the card.
